We spent our final week finishing up projects, practicing for our final day performance, and saying goodbye to friends for the summer.
We found some great big branches scattered over the playground when we went out on Tuesday, and the children used them during the week to build forts. They worked together to carry and arrange them into secret hiding spots.
It was great to have Cindy with us on Tuesday and Wednesday. The children really enjoy working with her, playing chase with her, and listening to her read stories.
The sensory table was full of pop beads, and everyone had a great time creating fabulous jewelry for themselves and everyone else. Our classroom was full of princes and princesses all decked out in the most stunning accessories!
On Thursday morning we had fun doing rainy day activities before heading outside for an obstacle course. We enjoyed one last snack time, all together, before packing up our stuff and listening to our last story of the year.
All of the children did a wonderful job during the performance. Good luck to all of our friends who will be moving on next year, and congratulations to our three kindergarten students.
Thank you to everyone for a wonderful year! We will miss all of the students who are moving on, and we look forward to seeing all of the returning students in the fall. Enjoy the summer!

From Sunday snow to Friday swimming – what a week!
Emily came in on Tuesday and introduced an Eric Carle art project, which the students enjoyed doing throughout the week. We will display them next week for our art show.
We played a game of cooperative musical chairs during circle, where the children worked together to make sure that there was a spot for everyone as the chairs were removed. They made room by squishing together so friends could share seats, and by sitting on laps. We got down to six chairs for sixteen children!
We read some great stories this week. We read Toot and Puddle, by Holly Hobby, about two friends; one who loves to stay close to home and have adventures, and one who loves to travel the world. We also read One, by Kathryn Otoshi, about standing up for yourself. On Thursday we read Miss Rumphius, by Barbara Cooney, about doing something to make the world more beautiful.
Everyone was thrilled to see Cindy on Thursday. We always love having her join us! Thank you Cindy!
We continued to practice for our last day performance, and spent time finishing up some special books for our families. It was a busy week!
During Spanish we sang lots of our favorite songs, reviewed the names of the farm animals, and enjoyed the story El Mono Paparazzi, about a monkey who takes pictures of all the rain forest animals.
Friday students had a Fabulously Fun Friday! Last week they came up with a plan for the day, and we did our best to accomplish it all. They wore their pajamas to school. They baked a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. They put on bathing suits and played in the pool and the sprinkler. They made an awesome obstacle course (outside this time), and had a fabulous time doing it over and over. Gerrie Scott helped to make it a special last Friday as well. After reading The Old Bear, by Kevin Henkes, she brought a surprise that she made for us – our very own fairy house. The children were very excited, and can’t wait to show it to our other friends on Tuesday. She also did face painting again. Thank you Gerrie for so many great Friday stories and visits!

The spring rain this week so nicely avoided falling during recess, allowing us to spend much needed time outside running, jumping rope, digging, and playing. Some of the children have really been working hard to master rope jumping. After only two weeks, we have several students that have figured out the timing to jump just as the rope comes toward them, and some others that can jump almost ten times with the rope going all the way over before missing. It has been exciting to watch them work hard practicing these skills.
Students were busy doing lots of work this week. Some of them chose items that they had not yet used this year.
We spent a lot of time this week doing cooperative games and activities. Some students worked together to create a drawing, where one student gave directions about what to draw, and the other student did the drawing. They took turns being the director and the artist so they could experience what the other child was feeling. Another game that Tammy led was a parachute game where the group worked together to keep the ball on the parachute or bounce it off. We also worked together when leaving circle. Students walked backwards while holding hands with a partner. They worked together to keep each other safe, going slowly and avoiding shelves and chairs.
We have been practicing the songs for our last day performance, and are looking forward to singing them all for you.
At the art table the children found some red circles, black dots, and wavy green paper. Many of them created ladybug art, which are displayed on our classroom wall. On Wednesday Zeanny did a color wicking experiment with some of the children. They colored on coffee filters then placed a wet filter up through the center, and as it wet the color it pulled it out so you could see the colors that combined to make it.
During Spanish we practiced many of the songs that we learned throughout the year, and reviewed some animal names. Zeanny read Mi Abuela va al Mercado about an Abuela (grandmother) who travels the world on a flying carpet collecting items from each country to bring back to her granddaughter in Peru.
Friday students were excited to make hovercrafts with CD’s, balloons, and pop top covers. They floated right across the table when we pushed them. Gerrie Scott read April and Esme Tooth Fairies, about two young tooth fairy sisters who collect their first tooth ever. The weather was a lot cooler but we had fun playing tag and jumping rope before we went in to work for the afternoon. At the end of the day they just had to make an obstacle course, so once again the tables and chairs were rearranged, and they had fun doing the circuit – balancing, jumping, crawling, writing their names, and building a puzzle.
Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
