The highlight of the week was watching the butterflies hatch and setting them free! On Tuesday morning we arrived to see 3 of our 5 butterflies had emerged from their chrysalis and we got to witness the fourth hatch which was really neat.
On Tuesday night the last butterfly hatched and we were able to let all 5 go on Wednesday. They were very eager to fly off, except for one who hung around for awhile…
We continued with our study of the ocean and enjoyed singing “A Sailor Went to Sea,” “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean,” “1 Little, 2 Little, 3 Little Fish.” We read books about the seashore and tidal pools and examined a starfish and a blue crab model that a student brought in to share. We’ve also been very busy playing our ocean naming game. We passed/tossed an inflatable globe around circle singing:
“Oh I can name all the oceans, Oh I can name all the oceans, Oh I can name all the oceans, Just come and sing with me!” The student who was holding the globe when we stopped singing had to name one of the oceans. See if your child can name a few for you!
We also began working on our end of the year art project and Kindergarten is finishing up their independent science projects.
The last day of school will be Thursday, June 7th. Please join us at noon for a family picnic, please bring a dish to share! The children will have their art projects, science projects on display and will be singing some songs about numbers!
